AVATAR-BASED CLASSROOM MAKES VIRTUAL LEARNING COME ALIVE

Terrific article about MIT Sloan Executive Education use of Immersive Terf ®

To achieve this level of interactivity Tucker had to take
an entirely new pedagogical approach. “Teaching
in-world changed everything,” she says. “The way we
structured the material was to make sure that each
point is neatly encapsulated within a section and then
what you have to do live in an online environment for a
half an hour is to lecture to an audience.”

Tucker found it rewarding to be able to teach fairly
complex, technical material to an executive audience
in a format that made it easier for them to learn. “My
most memorable and proudest moment was the first
time we ran the program and it felt very much as we
were living in cyberspace,” she recalls. “When you are
in the room as a teacher, you can’t see how everyone
is responding and you wonder and you worry whether
they are learning or not. And then I gave the class
three days to do a presentation on what they learned.
And they absolutely blew me away! I would say after a
week, they were giving presentations that would equal
my MBA students who have had an entire semester in
the physical environment.”
